Prepping for Songbook

Prepping for Songbook

As first-year students, we have three guaranteed performance opportunities: the First-Year Presentation at the end of the fall semester, an opera chorus, and the First-Year Songbook at the end of the spring semester. This week we’re going to be performing our Songbook!

We chose our repertoire earlier in the semester. We’re each doing two pieces; one early English piece with harpsichord, and one Romantic-era Italian piece with piano. After we selected our pieces, we got to work prepping.

We all had at least one coaching per week with David Moody, who coordinates our two performances. At the beginning of the semester it was just one or two coachings, but for the past few weeks we’ve all had schedules full of coachings.

Some of us performed our Italian pieces in diction, but we didn’t hear everyone’s pieces until last week’s dress rehearsal. Everyone sounded great, and we were all so proud of how far we’ve come!

I was so inspired hearing everyone sing and realizing how much talent I’m surrounded by.

I’m so excited for our last performance of the year!
