Why I Chose Juilliard
Choosing where to go to college is a big and often scary decision. I’m here to show you why I ultimately decided Juilliard was the best place for me!
1. The “where”
I’ve loved New York ever since I came with my family in 8th grade. It’s such a special place and it’s so different from every other city. It’s filled with culture and excitement, and I never feel bored or uninspired here
2. The “who”
When I was accepted, I was assigned to Edith Bers’ studio, and she was my first choice teacher. I had a sample lesson with her and I knew she would help me grow in terms of technique and also as an artist, and I was right!
3. The name
Of course, part of my attraction to Juilliard was the prestige. So many successful people have come out of this school, and it’s known around the world for exceptional training.
4. The people
After I was accepted, I attended an “accepted students day” where two students from Vocal Arts showed me around. I sat in on classes and had meetings with Vocal Arts staff, and they were (and are!) some of the nicest people I’ve met. The other students were so welcoming and happy to talk to me instead of giving off a pretentious vibe. The staff was so accommodating and willing to answer any questions I had, and they still are!
These are just a few things that I loved, and still love, about Juilliard. I wouldn’t want to be anywhere else, and I wish you all the best with your decisions!
