Coming Up Next...
It’s been a busy week here! We just had our final dress rehearsal for La Sonnambula, this year’s Met+Juilliard production. We started rehearsals in December, and we open this week! It’s in a concert style, so we have our music with us and there isn’t much staging. I was a bit hesitant about the concert style at first, but I love it, especially being on stage with the orchestra. The finale is so exhilarating!
Practicing the rep proved to be more difficult than expected. It’s “simple” because it’s Bellini, but there is so much music for the chorus! As our conductor said, the chorus is basically it’s own character in this show. We were all a little confused when we saw how many rehearsals were on our schedules, but it made sense once we had gone through all of the music.
Being in my first production at Juilliard has been so exciting. I love that they put all of the first-year singers in the same chorus so that we can all experience it together. Standing on the stage during the finale hearing the orchestra playing and the lead singer singing a high F is like nothing I’ve ever done before, and it makes me so happy to be here!
We have 3 performances this week, and then the first-year singers start preparing for our First Year Songbook in April!
