A Day in the Life - Featuring the Juilliard Jazz Orchestra
School is back in session! So what does that mean? No more lazy summer! It's time to get back to business! And at Juilliard, there is a lot to take care of on a daily basis.
Now, some days are better than others. For example, my Wednesdays are less stressful than my Fridays. That being said, as a student here, I would learn how to prioritize and balance my time and workload. My first year was not quite as busy as this year, but since it is my second year, I know what's expected. And to be honest, I like being this busy! It keeps me on my toes, that’s for sure!
Speaking of being busy, these couple weeks have been especially so because the first big band concert of the year is coming up. That's right, the Juilliard Jazz Orchestra is preparing some AMAZING music for the music lovers out there! Every Monday and Wednesday (and the occasional Saturday), the band gets together to rehearse the music for the upcoming concert. In this case, the music we are rehearsing for this first concert is the music of Bill Challis, Eddie Durham and Don Redman, musicians and arrangers who incorporated the New Orleans style and the blues into arrangements for larger ensemble in the 1920s and on.
