Focus, Will Ya?!
We're young. We tend to have a lot on our minds, which would explain why we have to be put in our right mind by our elders a lot of the time, amirite?
I usually find myself having to focus on A TON of different things, especially this school year. This is my second year at Juilliard, and it is WAY busier than first year. More classes...more work...more gigs...
See that up there? So far, that’s my year in “cycle form”. Classes…work, gigs…classes…work…gigs… (getting dizzy just typing this)
As a Juilliard student, you need focus, or else you would spiral off of the cycle’s orbit into who-knows-where! Your calendar/agenda/planner becomes your best friend.
When you sit down to practice, or do work, remember to be COMPLETELY relaxed and focused. Concentrate all of energy into completing each task, and try not to let anything distract you!
For example, every time I sit down to write an essay for liberal arts, I open Spotify and start listening to Aphex Twin: Selected Ambient Works 85-92. For some reason, that album helps my mind go faster. It may not work for everyone, but I know that helps me.
Bottom line is: STAYING FOCUSED is one of the keys needed to balance life at Juilliard (including the road to Juilliard).
