One Year on the Books

At the end of last semester, I tallied up what I had accomplished by the numbers. I could do the same for the entire year—I could count how many hours I’ve practiced, sonatas I’ve learned, concerts I’ve played, but what I’ve learned in one year at Juilliard amounts to so much more than that.

This Year in Review

Here is a list of all the music I played this year; It is a combination of Juilliard Orchestra, Lab Orchestra, New York Youth Symphony, Boston Philharmonic Youth Orchestra, Rep Class, New Juilliard Ensemble, AXIOM, gigs, chamber music recitals, friends’ recitals, and lessons (some orchestral works I played more than once).

Jury Time

It’s Jury Week! This week can be considered the most stressful time of the year, but it can also be a chance to decompress if you do it right. Juries are a way for the faculty to evaluate your progress from the beginning of the year to now.

Coaching 101

Pre-Juilliard, many students haven’t ever had a coaching before, and some have had a lot. Coachings are great ways to add depth and artistry to your piece, and they give you another perspective on how to look at what it is you’re singing. I made a short clip of one of my coachings this week with David Moody where I brought in a new aria for us to work on!

In the Neighborhood

I spend a lot of time talking about what life is like inside this building, but what about outside? Juilliard’s location on the Upper West Side makes it a prime spot in for food, shopping, and entertainment. Check out some of my favorite spots to hang out in in the neighborhood when I’m on a practice break!

What a School!

This weekend has taught me how amazing my schoolmates are...

First, I managed to experience Mozart's opera "Die Zauberflöte" ("The Magic Flute").

Why I Chose Juilliard

Enrolling at Juilliard has been one of the best decisions I’ve made, and I wouldn’t change it for anything. Here are my top five reasons I chose to come here:

Why I Chose Juilliard

Congratulations on your acceptance to Juilliard! I know how important it is to consider all the factors that make a college what it is, so I thought I’d share some of the reasons that I chose Juilliard!

Why I Chose Juilliard

Now, to some, choosing Juilliard for college would be a no brainer. It's JUILLIARD, for Pete's sake. However, it's important to choose the school that is the right fit for YOU, the student, and of all the schools I applied to, Juilliard just happened to be the best fit for me.

April Workshop

On Thursday and Friday of last week, we had the last two student choreography workshops of the year! Workshops are one of my favorite events at Juilliard because it is amazing to see the talent and risk-taking of my peers with their work.

First-Year Songbook

This past week the first-year singers at Juilliard performed in our First-Year Songbook! This was our last performance of the year and it went wonderfully. We had a great audience, and a lot of us had family coming in from out of state to see us perform!

One Year After Juilliard

If you could give a piece of advice for somebody starting Juilliard, what would you say?

To take your time. To let the process unfold and the people you meet unfold and don’t try to rush yourself into anything for the sake of accomplishing some type of expectation.

Prepping for Songbook

As first-year students, we have three guaranteed performance opportunities: the First-Year Presentation at the end of the fall semester, an opera chorus, and the First-Year Songbook at the end of the spring semester. This week we’re going to be performing our Songbook!

Free Time!

By the end of the school week, I am usually tuckered out. However, as the weather continues to get nicer, the weekend gives us the opportunity to recharge and explore the city! Here is how I spent my Saturday:

Life Below the Stage

One of my favorite things about Juilliard is the fact that we have three divisions—music, drama, and dance—all under the same roof. Although our training in our respective fields is so specific and we spend many hours each day studying our own art forms, Juilliard provides some amazing opportunities for collaboration.
