WINDING DOWN FOR THE SCHOOL YEAR

WINDING DOWN FOR THE SCHOOL YEAR

We’ve got two and a half weeks to go before the end of the school year! My class (Drama Group 48) is currently in tech and dress rehearsals for our respective Shakespeare shows: Romeo & Juliet and Richard II. The good thing about this week is that we no longer have classes (except for the BFA liberal arts classes and MFA seminars twice a week) so we have our mornings free.

Lately, what I have been doing with my mornings is journaling over a cup of yogurt on my bed. I’ve been doing stream-of-consciousness writing, which has been helping me reflect on where I am at as well as to process anything that may either be bothering me, asking for my attention, or simply giving attention to hunches to allow them space to grow into something more tangible. The mere act of putting thoughts on paper has been helping ground me for the past few days.

Also, since I have my mornings free I have had more time to exercise. I do it in the gym in the Rose Building right beside the Juilliard School. I am taking it easy because I used to have the tendency to go full on with a new habit/lifestyle in the beginning only to burn out quickly. So I only have been doing it twice a week and allowing ample recovery time. I have been walking more too, so that counts as exercise as well!

I can’t believe I have 1 more school year to go! It feels like so much has happened since I decided to listen to that hunch to apply to graduate school in the United States back in 2014. And yet, knowing that I have 1 more year to go is so satisfying being that it tells me there is further to go artistically, personally and spiritually in what has been a safe space for me for the past two and a half years.
