It’s almost painful to be thinking about summer when we still have juries and finals to go, but the summer mood is definitely creeping up on the Juilliard community. This summer, I’m looking forward to a much-needed dose of nature and sunlight and will be spending part of my time in Michigan and part of it in Colorado.
I want to spend a lot of the summer working on mindfulness in all aspects of my life, something that is difficult to do during the school year. With the constant bustle of the city and the pressure of school, it’s easy to get stuck in routines that aren’t always the most healthy or productive. I’m planning on using this summer to clarify my goals, reset bad habits I’ve formed (like not completely warming up before practicing…eek), and forge stronger relationships with the people in my life who are most important to me. My mental state strongly affects my music-making, and I know having a stress-detox will help my overall artistic process. I’m excited to use the next few months as a chance to refresh myself in preparation for the last half(!) of my Juilliard experience when I return in the fall.
