How to ‘School’ in 75 Degree Weather
SUMMER IS RIGHT AROUND THE CORNER! The weather is slowly getting warmer and Juilliard students have three and a half weeks of school before summer vacation! A big challenge around this time of year is staying motivated when there are so many fun distractions around the city! This week’s blog is about staying focused and making time to enjoy springtime in New York!
In any situation, time management is key. In order to have any sort of free time and manage your busy schedule you’ve got to plan for the work you need to do. Making lists is a great start, and crossing off to do items as you finish them will give you a sense of accomplishment. My biggest advice is to utilize all the time you have. Instead of spending a 15-minute break between classes on the internet, use that time to review study materials or do an assignment for your upcoming classes. I can’t even begin to say how much time that’s saved me.
Realistic Goal Setting
Another tip is to set realistic goals for yourself. Goal setting is crucial, however, if you bite off more than you can chew, you’ll only be disappointed. It’s much better to set realistic goals that you know you can follow through on. This requires planning ahead and spending time to estimate the length of time it will take to complete a given task. You’ll also need to start working in advance, however, if you can manage your time, it will be a huge weight off your shoulders come final exam time.
Planning for Study Breaks
In order to keep to your goals, I recommend planning time to go outside, see friends, or watch Netflix. This will give you a nice break from all of your work, and keep you from hitting a productivity wall. In everything, you need a balance of work and play. Scheduling these times will remind you to keep that balance and keep you on track for success.
