THIRD YEAR SHAKESPEARES: Romeo & Juliet and Richard II

THIRD YEAR SHAKESPEARES: Romeo & Juliet and Richard II

Spring break is over and we have begun rehearsals for the final project of the third year of training: Romeo and Juliet and Richard II! These shows will be staged back-to-back at the Stephanie P. McClelland Drama Theater from May 1-9, 2018. This is especially exciting for my group (Group 48) because this will be our first time performing at the Drama Theater with full-blown set and costumes. Romeo and Juliet will be directed by Ian Belknap while Richard II will be directed Tyne Rafaeli.

I’m cast as Lady Capulet, Lady Montague, among others in Romeo and Juliet. I love the fact that I have played at least three characters for each production in my third year of training. We’ve only been rehearsing for a week and we have already gotten through table-work and have begun putting scenes on our feet (off-book) and sword-fighting!

I will likely to post more updates as we continue to delve deeper into rehearsals. In the meantime, I am happy to show a couple of costume sketches by our talented costume designers. Jessica Wegener designed the costumes for Romeo and Juliet while Andrea Hood designed the costumes for Richard II.

We’ve explored Act 1 on our feet last week (whew!) and will continue to move forward this week. Stay tuned for more updates!
