New semester...new me!!
Yes..I just said that.
It's hard to believe I'm in my last semester of undergrad already! I feel like I just finished 1st year orientation yesterday! It's off to the real world soon...
But first, I have some short-term goals I want to accomplish:
1. Transcribe a solo a week for the rest of the semester
As a jazz major, I do a lot of mental transcribing anyway, so I might as well commit to writing down my favorite solos of my favorite players. It'll be good practice for me as well as I learn to master Sibelius.
2. Play down to a pedal E natural on my trombone
Since I've been playing the trombone, I never really spent time on pedals. Pedal Bbs and As are no problem. And now, thanks to my private teacher, Elliot Mason, Abs and Gs are getting easier! I think my goal is realistic if I put the time in.
3. Compose a tune a week for the rest of the semester
I've learned that writing music is quite therapeutic to me. So I've made it a goal of mine to compose and write out a tune a week for the rest of the semester. I have a lot of random song ideas literally ALL of the time. It's about time I get serious about writing them out and developing them.
4. Be more consistent with posting covers on my Instagram
People seem to like the singing covers I post on Instagram. They are a lot of fun to do, so why not make it a goal to post more consistently? (Shameless plug: follow me @thejefferymiller)
What are your goals for this spring? My motto is to dream big, but remain realistic. Good luck with your goal-achieving!
