Back at it Again

Back at it Again

Aaaaaaaaaaand we’re back! Wild… It’s been quite some time since I’ve written a post, so I’m glad to be back in the game and writing to you all again! I will say though that winter break kept me busy enough, (actually perhaps even a bit too busy, but ah well) and I was glad to have the time off. I spent most of my time at home looking after the small petting zoo worth of animals that live at my house (local foxes included, there’s a den a few hundred yards from the house) and getting back together with old friends. I always make it a point to try and keep in touch with as many people as I can from my past, since there’s simply no replacing the effects of time when it comes to friendship! Aside from that, I also spent a lot of time writing music, playing Doom, (for Nintendo Switch, shoutout to all my Nintendo fans out there) and driving back and forth to IHOP. Overall I’d say it was a winter break well spent. My only complaint of course being that it was cold beyond belief, but honestly at this point I’m pretty numb to it. (Both literally and spiritually.)

Point being, everyone here is back at it again, and overall the energy here is pretty high to start off the year! As per usual, a frequent topic of conversation which arises after break is if you made any goals or resolutions for the new year. It’s true that new years resolutions are often a dangerous trap, but I personally feel that if you keep your goals short-term and realistic, there’s nothing stopping you from going after them, achieving them, and turning them into life-long habits!

One close friend of mine, when asked, responded “Honestly… my only goal is to just… do better. Just… Whatever I did last year… don’t do that again… just… be better.” I make it sound super melodramatic but it was said in good humor. But truthfully, this is definitely one of my goals as well! Last year a LOT of things didn’t go too well… so if I could just… do better as a whole then that would be great. In terms of the more tangible things, there’s actually so much (perhaps even too much) that I’d like to do. The two things that I’d like to devote a lot more time to this year are music and photography. I recently acquired an M-Audio 49-key weighted midi keyboard, and I’ve been using it to start putting together scores for the pieces I choreograph, so short-term my goal is to write the score for the piece I am choreographing for the February choreographic workshop.

Then on the photography side of things, my father gave me a new, beautiful telephoto lens for my DSLR for Christmas, so I figured it was time to dust of the camera tripod and get the thing back into action! I’ve included three shots (two are views from my dorm window, and then the street level shot was taken right outside of Juilliard) throughout this post that I’ve taken so far with it, and hopefully many more are to come!

Anyways, it’s great to be back, and I hope you all are feeling as ready to take on the next semester as I am! Be sure to check out some of the other posts and be sure to check back next week for more great content!
