Coming together for Art
Being an artist at Juilliard means so many things. It means being open, it means practicing, it means challenging yourself to do more than you ever thought you could, it means being organized, it means inspiring yourself and others, it means communicating beauty to the world, and it means being the best at your craft that you can be.
One of the most beautiful aspects of being an artist that I have a passion for exploring is the idea of collaboration. There is nothing like coming together with people who you may or may not know, who may or may not speak your language to create something beautiful, and with the diverse population at Juilliard, I have had absolutely magical experiences so far coming together with other artists with little to no introduction and simply diving into art.
One example of this is a recent project of improvisational art that I have gotten to experience with a group of Juilliard students. In essence, this was an experience in which a random, wonderful group of dancers, actors, and musicians crossed divisions and came up with a collaborative piece of art. With this kind of a project in which each artist is coming up with ideas and contributing pieces to the work of art, it is so fascinating to watch all these different ideas come together and for people to completely open up through artistic conversation to let down their boundaries and travel together as a group through the art.
Because of the diversity within Juilliard, there is such a wide range of ideas and possibilities coming from different cultures, different personal experiences, and different forms of artistic physical and musical instruments. Ultimately, through these artistic conversations, we can bring up the topics that cannot be spoken about into the minds of both the artists and the audiences that experience them.
Till next time!! XO
