Springtime at Jyard
After months of cold weather, grey skies, and dead trees, spring has finally sprung!! Spring is my favorite season in NYC; it would be summer, but it gets a little too hot for my taste. Classes have started slowing down (at least for me) as students prepare for juries and finals. Though I am practicing and studying hard, I do have a little more downtime in my schedule. I love being able to go outside and spend time in the city without having to carry around my down coat and snow boots! Here are some of my favorite places to be on a sunny day in NYC:
This is a bit of a trek, but it is 100% worth it. It takes place every Saturday and Sunday from April-October in Brooklyn. There are a ton of vendors selling the some of the best (and most interesting) food I’ve ever had. If you’ve seen any posts about weird or exciting new foods, there’s a large chance that they’re from Smorgasburg. Seen above is the raindrop cake that was all the rage last year, which was unfortunately disappointing (it just tasted like rainwater).
2. Central Park
As I’ve said many a time, I love Central Park. It’s so close to Juilliard, but the trees and water makes me feel like I’m not in the city anymore. It’s the perfect place to go in the spring (as long as you don’t have vicious allergies).
3. The Lincoln Center Lawn
Unfortunately, the lawn isn’t open for the season JUST yet, but it’s one of my favorite places to be when I have some spare time to sit and read or chat.
4. The Rose Walk
The Rose Walk is the walkway from the Juilliard building to the residence hall. Whenever the temperature reaches above 60 degrees, the Rose Walk is full of Juilliard students. It’s the perfect place to go and relax if you have some time between classes.
