My Favorite Class(es)
Picking my favorite class is a very tough decision to make. It’s like asking which one of my legs is more important (Both important. Couldn’t function with just one). Our classes at Juilliard are tailored to the specific needs of the profession, making them incredibly important. While they all require a lot of work, I do find most of my classes enjoyable. Instead of picking my favorite, I will talk about three of my favorites and why I like each.
Acting is one of my favorite classes each week. Usually on Tuesdays from 4-6pm, I love being able to explore a text and work towards understanding a character. The first year acting teachers, Mary and John, are great at planning exercises that push us to think beyond what we would on our own. They force us to carefully consider all of our acting choices to make bold and thoughtful decisions onstage.
I guess it’s not technically a class, but I always look forward to my voice lessons each week. My teacher, Edith Wiens, and I have really clicked. I love getting to work and try new things with her. Plus, any opportunity to do what I love is always welcome in my book! Instead of one hour-long lesson, I have two half hour lessons. This way, I can see her more frequently and maximize the amount of time I have in lessons. My voice lessons are at 11am on Tuesdays and 11:30am on Fridays.
While I am not I’m not in love with all of the material and find this class incredibly challenging, I do like having something to keep me on my toes. My professor, Dr. Oquin, and teaching fellow, Matt, are both masters at what they do and really care about the student’s learning. This class is one of my hardest classes and makes me work harder than I ever have before.
HONORABLE MENTION – Lunch
It’s not a class but I love to eat at the Juilliard/SAB Café. The staff is very friendly and the food is very good!
Have a great week!
