Looking Back

Looking Back

I would be lying if I said I can’t believe my first year is almost over, because it definitely feels like a year went by; however, I can’t believe how much I’ve learned musically, academically, and personally in just my first year here!  The semesters certainly went by slowly for me with all the work and practice, but looking back, I am so grateful for all my classes and long rehearsals.

The highlight of my year was definitely my weekly lessons with my flute teacher, I really can’t believe how much I’ve learned from him in just a year! I kept track of all the repertoire I learned this year in orchestra, chamber music, and lessons, and it is two complete pages single spaced! I’ve never studied so much music in such a short span of time, and that is definitely what I’ve enjoyed the most in my first year at Juilliard.

With classes and rehearsals winding down these last couple of weeks I’ve actually gotten to go outside more and enjoy what Juilliard’s location has to offer, and it is truly incredible (last week I went to Central Park or Riverside Park almost every day, and I also went to Chelsea and Brighton Beach in Brooklyn!). Unfortunately it took me almost the entire school year to figure this out, so I am very glad I have three more years to explore the city!

I have met so many incredible artists and mentors who have become my closest friends and huge sources of inspiration, and I feel so lucky to be able to work with and see these people on a daily basis. I am so grateful to be at this school!
