Guest Traveling and Recital
Lots of things have been going down here at Juilliard. Here are a couple of things I wanted to share with you, that I think are pretty great.
This week, my mom came to visit me from Iceland! What I really like about this place is that we are allowed to have a guest stay in our dorms for 6 nights in a row! The guest usually just sleeps on the couch in our suite or you can bring the mattress into your room. It is not the most comfortable bed in the world… but it saves tons of money and your guest really gets the full college feeling!
Commuting to/from Juilliard is actually very easy. This weekend, my mom and I went to see our cousins in Williamstown, MA. We took the subway to Grand Central and from there a train to Williamstown. On our way back, we actually took the Greyhound, and then again the Subway, which takes you right to 66th street, Lincoln Center, aka right across from The Juilliard School! It is so convenient!!
Same with airports, you can just take the subway to the airport, it is the cheapest way to get there, and believe me, you do not want to spend 70 bucks on a cab, when you can get to the same place for only 7,50! :)
Last but not least, I have a recital next week! I am super excited and scared to death to be giving my first recital at Juilliard, but I think it will be a lot of fun! At most conservatories, people are required to give recitals their junior and senior years, but the first two years, they don’t get many performance opportunities. Here, you can share a recital with a friend, so I am sharing my recital with my friend Alaina, a violist! That way, everyone gets to perform and share the spotlight.
I hope you guys are figuring out where you want to study next year!
I know it is a very hard choice to make. I think this is a pretty nice place and you will not regret coming here :) But no matter where you decide to go, you will learn a lot and have a great time. That is what college is all about!
Until next time,
P.S. If you happen to be in the city, come to our recital!! :)
