More than anything I'm asked why I chose to go to Juilliard. We all know choosing the school for you is a difficult decision. So many things are taken into account: the program, the faculty, student life, location and the school graduates. For me, Juilliard was the best in all of these categories.
Our community is as diverse as New York City is. I have learned from my fellow classmates as much as I've learned from the faculty here. Yes, in the drama division, we learn different techniques to make us stronger actors but at the center of it all is the individual. The personal things we bring to the table and how our technique can elevate that.
My faculty members feel like my mentors and my classmates are my siblings. Some of the best theater happens in these studios, under fluorescent lights, at 9:00am. Everyone's working hard and it's thrilling to see the work day in and day out.
New York City is a hub for the arts in general but, Theatre is especially special in New York. Getting to study drama at school and then go see the greats on Broadway, off Broadway or coming to talk with us one afternoon is invaluable.
Juilliard has made me a better actor and a better person. The school itself, the prestige, and notable alumni are all great. But I chose Juilliard because of the people and the training. Both are the best in the world.
