If you have been accepted to Juilliard, congratulations! Having trouble deciding where to spend the next four years of your life? Here are a few of the reasons why Juilliard is the right place for me.
Life never stops here on the upper west side. And if you can’t find enough talent here at Juilliard, there are world class performers year-round at Lincoln Center, right outside our door.
All first year college students are required to live in the dorms their freshman year. Since it is such a small program, everybody knows everybody here at Juilliard. This creates a special type of atmosphere at school. For example, a few weeks ago, there was an “open mic” type of night in the lounge, where everyone showcased their art, as well as their hidden talents. It was a blast. Take a look.
3. New York Magic
You never know what might happen to you in New York. Last week, I was coming back from an outreach performance in Queens when we stumbled upon a large group of people singing across the tracks from us in the subway. Nina had her ukulele with her and so we sang an impromptu call and response version of “Build Me Up Buttercup” with them. It was one of those unplanned, magical moments where complete strangers came together through music.
4. Personal Attention
Other dance schools have very large classes. At Juilliard, a dance class is only 24-26 people. In my eyes, the type of personal attention given here at Juilliard in unmatched by any other dance program.
Check out a video I made last year that captures the essence of what Juilliard is for me.
Best of luck, I hope to see you here next year!
