Top 4 Reasons Why I Chose Juilliard

Top 4 Reasons Why I Chose Juilliard

Hey guys!

Many of you are probably in the process of trying to decide where to go to school next year.  I know, it is a very difficult choice to make! I wanted to help you out a little and tell you the Top 4 reasons why I decided to come to Juilliard.

For music students, the most important factors to have in mind when deciding where to go to college, is the scholarship and teacher.  The teacher is more important than the school itself, so really sit down and think about, which teacher you like the best and which one seems genuinely interested in teaching you.

However, here are things that make Juilliard stand out from other schools.

1)   The Name
After the 2 important factors (money and teacher) there is of course the famous name “Juilliard”.  Having Juilliard on your biography can’t hurt, it is one of the most famous music schools in the world.  Many of the best musicians in the world came from Juilliard.

2)  High level
At all music schools, the level is up and down. Some people are amazing, some are not quite as good.  At Juilliard, the general level is pretty high.  Some people are truly amazing, they do international competitions and are already building up their solo careers. Even the rest of the people are all very solid and they are all talented.  It is very inspiring to be around them.

3)  City
How can you not love New York City?? It is one of the greatest places in the world.  Many schools are located in small college towns, where there is nothing else to do, but study and work.  Which is of course good in a way, you get to really focus. It is however, also very boring :)

New York on the other hand is never ever boring, there are endless things you can do here!  It is the most inspiring place to be, ESPECIALLY for the arts, because you are surrounded by world class artists, that you can see perform every week.

4)  Opportunities
What also comes along with studying at Juilliard, is that you get opportunities you can’t get anywhere else.  You get to perform in venues, most people can only dream of performing in and you get to meet people you have been looking up to since you were little!

Only here, your school orchestra will perform their concert in Carnegie Hall or Avery Fisher Hall with a world renowned conductor.  Last week, my orchestra reading was conducted by the famous violinist Itzhak Perlman! That was a pretty cool.

Good luck on making your decision!  I know this seems like the most important decision in the world right now, and it kinda is… but still, no matter what you decide, it will be the right decision. If you are happy with the teacher and the environment, and are prepared to work very hard, you will be in good hands! :)
