With a name like hers, Mikaela Kelly is certainly the cool kid on the block. A first year dancer and native New Yorker, you can count on her to always be on the move. If I had to describe Mikaela in three words I would choose fashionable, innovative, and ambitious. She is also my friend because she always shares her ice cream and whatever treats she has to offer, you guys need to meet this woman!
Q: What have you learned about yourself the past semester and a half?
A: "I think the most important thing I've learned is how to be honest with myself and my expectations and understand that some days are going to be great and some days are going to be harder. As long as I'm approaching my work with a positive attitude and the best intentions, I will be working towards my best self."
Q: What advice would you give your younger self?
A "I would tell my younger self not to try and please the world. Not everyone is going to like who you are, you're never going to be perfect in everyone's eyes. The important thing is to be happy with who you are and what you're doing. If you can be confident that you're on the right path to being who you want to be, then that's all the validation you need."
Q: If you aren't dancing what are you up to?
A: "When I'm not dancing you can usually find me working on some DIY project, or on a couch watching Netflix with a tub of ice cream and multiple Rice Krispy wrappers lying around me."
Mikaela came in as a purely trained ballerina, and is already certified to teach Ballet before the age of 20. Since day one at Juilliard, she has been open minded and taking on new techniques and challenges with ease. She is clearly on the right track and it has been nothing less than inspiring to dance next to her the past six months.
Thank you MK for beautifying my blog! Love ya!
