Here we are again!
Winter break flew by so fast. I can’t begin to explain how nice it was to come back home for the first time and see my friends, family and most importantly my cat!! However, I am very happy to be back. I am very excited for this semester and what it will have to offer.
It was great seeing all my friends again! Everyone is determined to start the year off right, so we all dived right back into the routine and started working very hard!
And messing around :) hey we are just people!
However, the first week of the semester was somehow the craziest week I have had so far at Juilliard!! Everything started right away.
I am in the first orchestra cycle of the year, we are playing The Infernal Machine by Rouse, Mozart Piano Concerto No. 22 and Tchaikovsky Symphony No. 5 (!!!).
We also had an orchestra seating audition for this semester, mine was on Wednesday! We had a lot of excerpts to prepare and it was quite stressful!
The thing about Juilliard is that you never know who is going to be your audience. I was not feeling too nervous about this seating audition, until I saw that one of my idols was judging the audition, a violinist I had often seen perform with the Chamber Music Society! And HE was going to hear me play my excerpts??? This I still need to get used to.
So my tip is, take everything seriously!! You never know who is going to be listening to you, and here at Juilliard, it is probably going to be someone really important! You never know, they might remember you in the future!
Now that this crazy week is over, I actually feel quite relieved to be back. I really missed my friends and of course the city!
Okay, I would be lying if I said I missed the Cafeteria :) …. But I have missed some of the foods we don’t normally eat back in Iceland.
Like bagels in Central Park! Or delicious Korean Food from K-Town! And my all time favourite Bubble Tea!!!
I also missed the concerts, which is why I am so excited to see Maxim Vengerov, one of my all time favourite violinists perform the Tchaikovsky Concerto next with the NY Philharmonic!
I have a feeling this semester is going to be even better than the first one! And I can’t wait to see you at the auditions!
