Happy Go Glucky
This past semester, I have had the good fortune of performing around the city at different health care facilities through a project called the Gluck Community Service Fellowship.
Here is our group:
(We call ourselves the “happy-go-gluckies”)
Myself, along with Nina (2nd year actor), Audrey (2nd year actor), Miriam (2nd year dancer), and Jae (2nd year composition). **Fun fact: Jae was my roomie last year.
Every other Sunday we travel to a different facility. We put on a performance that runs about 45 minutes, where we all perform in our specific disciplines. The audiences are always very gracious and welcoming to us, and they typically have several questions about what exactly we do here at school.
Jae accompanies the entire performance. He will two of his own works on the piano, and then he will play while Miriam and I dance and improv. He will play along with Nina and Audrey while they sing.
Here is a short clip from our performance earlier today. Jae is doing his rendition of “New York State of Mind” by Billy Joel.
Audrey and Nina are actors at Juilliard, but they have a love for singing… and have incredible voices. They use this group as an opportunity to sing in a performance setting.
As dancers, Miriam and I will give an example of ballet technique, modern technique, and improvisation.
We finished our last performance of the semester earlier today. Since we are so busy with school in our own division, these types of performances give us a wonderful chance to collaborate with all the divisions.
