Top 12 Free Things in New York
The great thing about New York is that there is so much to do! Anything from seeing the finest Opera, eating the best Burmese food to seeing your favourite Disney Movie on Broadway, you name it, you can do anything here! However, things can get pretty pricy here. After a few months of exploring and having fun, I realised I needed to be a little bit more careful about spending my money. So I found some things that are completely free! You can still have a great time in NYC and do so much on a low budget! :)
1. Central Park
Nothing is better than taking a walk and getting completely lost on a Sunday afternoon. Take a break from practicing and see the beautiful fall colors!
2. Brooklyn Bridge
Walking on the bridge, you see the most amazing view, the entire Manhattan and Brooklyn! Since you are already there, why not also walk around Brooklyn? There is so much more to New York, than just Manhattan!
3. Chinatown, Korea Town, Little Italy
These places are so much fun! You don’t have to spend any money (although the food is great there and I really recommend it) just walking around is an adventure enough!
4. Rockefeller Center
A beautiful place on 5th Avenue! In the winter time, take your friends and go ice skating! (Just be extremely careful not to fall, for dancers and musicians and well everyone, it would get extremely complicated!
5. NYC Public Library
It is one of the largest libraries in the world and everyone can just walk in! Bring your essay and write it in a truly beautiful environment, surrounded by people from all over the world.
6. Walk Walk Walk!!!
Walking around is my favorite thing. You see so many different people, cultures, random books, squirrels, and restaurants… I could go on forever!
Many of the world’s best museums are completely free for students, such as the Metropolitan Museum, Guggenheim Museum and American Museum of Natural History.
8. Outdoor Movies
One of New York’s finest traditions. See some great films for free, under the stars, before it starts to get cold!
9. High Line
Take a long walk in this wonderful park!
You can get free tickets to some of the finest concerts, the New York Philharmonic for example gives out free student tickets every week! It’s too good not to take advantage of such things!
11. Riverside Park
There is an incredible amount of free samples you can get by walking around to ice cream places, bakeries or even beauty salons! It is definitely a fun and cheap way to get a taste of what the city has to offer!
